[sci.electronics] Build charger for car battery ???

rspangle@tazdevil.llnl.gov (Randy Spangler) (06/26/91)

I'm working on a car, and in the process draining the battery quite
rapidly. It's not really drivable, so recharging it by driving around
after jump-starting isn't an option.

I've got a few 12V and 15V transformers and other spare parts, and I
was wondering how hard it would be to build a trickle charger for the
car battery.

My best guess would be a 12 VDC transformer, resistor-limited to about
100 mA and with an ammeter hooked in series to determine how much current
is still flowing into the battery.

Can someone out there enlighten me further?
