I am trying to design a pinhole camera with a timed shutter and thought that liquid crystals would be an ideal solution: they are low power, reliable, non-mechanical, compact etc. The problem is how do I get my hands on them? All I need is a circle a centimeter or two in diameter. Can I make them myself? Is there some other way for me to electrically turn a window from opaque to transparent and back again reliably that meets my criteria?
