riddle@im4u.UUCP (Prentiss Riddle) (09/18/87)
My institution is about to consider computerizing its facilities on a
nationwide basis and is in the process of choosing a unified set of hardware
and software for the job. Since some of the member hospitals already have
computer facilities, this looks like it may turn into a classic battle of
UNIX vs. VMS.
I am looking for *rational* discussions of the pros and cons of the two
(families of?) operating systems. I am especially interested in hearing from
people who have reached a reasonable level of proficiency with both. I would
also appreciate pointers to published articles on this subject.
I am well aware that this question has been flamed to death on Usenet, so I
am asking for there to be no followups to this article. Please send your
responses to me at the address below and I will summarize. Thanks.
