Computer Helper Industries Inc makes a CPM add-on/replacement called CONIX that does redirection. You can redirect console input and output as well as printer output. You also get pipes, a fairly sophisticated batch file language, named or tree directories, utilities and online manuals. I haven't taken the time to get it up on my 8/16, but it ran pretty well on my 820-II before my hard disk went read-only.
