Would anyone be willing to share the agonies, ecstasies, and other practical advice as to BEGINNING to get the hardware/software which I will need so I can access an IBM system from my home (Osborne 1--SSSD) computer. I am not an assembly language programmer--much more the user of applications programs. My main intended use is tracking netmail (our library catalog is also online through the mainframe. Is it asking too much to even consider using the Osborne as a terminal for other mainframe applications (like SAS, for example)? Any advice would be appreciated. If the whole question is too fundamental, I would be willing to take answers directly and summarize for the net. I assume that the Simtel server will have numerous Osborne public domain programs/utilities, and am anxious to search that out, but will save my questions on THAT topic for another posting. Thank you much--Andy Stewart, C3038b at umrvmb.umr.edu
