[comp.os.cpm] Zilog autobaud detect / Zilog chip sources

linkr@groupw.cns.vt.edu (Roger Link) (04/05/91)

- Looking for auto baud detection code (Z80, pascal, etc.) for for a
   Zilog SCC (Z8530/Z8030) or SIO???

- Looking for a good source for Zilog chips. I need Z8530's (10Mhz),
and Z84C13 IPC's. I define good as a supplier that:
      - Has the chips
      - Can do COD or preferably VISA
      - Doesn't mind 5/10/15 quantities (I want at least 5 of everything!!)

The Z84x1x IPC are new "Intelligent Peripheral Controllers". They
have a 10Mhz Z80, SIO, CTC, Watch Dog timer, PIO (on some models), and
clock generator, wait state generator, and auto power on reset (some
models). All of this in a 84-pin PLCC or 100 pin quad flat pack!!!

From my point of view, these chips give the 8051/6811/etc.
microcontrollers a run for their money!!

not to mention, cp/m on a chip.

add a disk controller, some rom, some ram, and other odds and ends
and you'd have an extremely low parts count cp/m machine.

if someone could be so good as to even post estimated prices for these
toys, i'd REALLY appreciate it.

I talked to my local Zilog rep. Of the Zilog distributors he gave me,
I tried Newark and Lex (800-833-3557). Newark didn't have the Z84C13
IPC chips, and would require a large order for them to get them,
plus a long delay. Newark can do VISA, and carries the "standard"
Zilog chips (but so does Jameco/JDR, probably at a lower price!!).

Lex has the chips in stock. I have placed a order. They can do COD,
but no VISA. They do have a $250 minimum order. I paid about $18 for
my Z84C1310VEC (I think that is the proper number) chips. They are
being shipped from San Jose. There is also a 6Mhz version of this
chip.

As for Zilog SIO/SCC autobaud code, I'm still looking.............
