[comp.os.cpm] Selling a Xerox 820-II Computer

hughes@ux.acs.umn.edu (Steve Hughes) (04/22/91)

I'd be interested what the going price for a Xerox 820 CP/M micro might
be. I've got the box, keyboard and a 1200 Novation Smart Cat modem to
sell as a unit (I've been using it as a terminal). Anybody know what the
market price for such a beast might be? Anybody interested? It is truly
an 820-II, it is in good shape, and I have no drives for it. Like I said,
I've been using the internal bios term program and the modem to talk to
the mainframe, but I picked up a Mac finally, so it is of no use to me.

The modem isn't great--it is not autodial, and only 1200 baud, but it works
just fine if you still have fingers to dial a phone with :-) .

Reply by e-mail please, to preserve bandwidth.

Thanks!

I'm using just such a beastie right now. It's a Xerox 820-II with 2 disc
drives (did not come with modem). It was given to me & that may be some
indication of it's true value; however, I'm glad to have it to bbs with.
I understand that it was purchased from someone else for $60 total. I
have also seen an ad for one for $100. So, I guess it's true value is
whatever you can get for it, somewhere in the range between $60 & $100.

You might try posting an ad on Gateway Houston in the wants-ads message
base. Gateway Houston has a large videotel audience, because it's a rare
bbs that can be accessed with a U.S. Videtel videobox. Many of the
videobox users would gladly throw away their videoboxes if there were an
affordable alternative (they cannot bbs anywhere else with the
videoboxes). Gateway's phone numbers are: 723-3981, 723-2820, 723-3619
(it has 5 other lines for videobox access).

But I think someone would to have a disc drive to use it for bbs-ing.
