[comp.sys.m6809] CoCo3 incompatibility

jimomura@lsuc.UUCP (Jim Omura) (11/15/86)

We seem to be having some compatibility problems with the CoCo3.
A freind has asked me to see if anybody knows of a patch to use VIP Writer
(I imagine he has the latest version--forgot to ask) on the CoCo3.
I don't know what's wrong exactly except that it doesn't work.

If anybody knows if any of the other common CoCo word processors
work (or have patches to make them work) we'd be interested. Apparently
there is a new word processor called Color Scribe II by Colorware
for the CoCo3. Has anybody used this yet?

In this regard, has anybody seen the new CoCo3 Deskmate yet? I
expect that he'd be happy with Deskmate for now since he'll be
getting the Level II OS-9 when it comes out. It would be a very
great annoyance for him to have to buy Level I, Version 2 for a
couple of months while waiting for the Level II.

I have bought a new CoCo3 myself and now know about the Multi-Pak
problem. Apparently, there are 3 versions of Multi-Pak. Mine, a
first version, requires a chip upgrade. The local Shack estimated
$40.00 (Cdn), but I know the manager very well and it is not likely
that I'll be charged this much. This is a *real ESTIMATE* in that
the Shack had not decided on the actual cost at the time I placed
my order. The 2nd version of the Multi-Pak requires a "satellite
board" installation (how 'bout that?--the *older* ones are better).
I expect that the $40.00 estimate would be close for this upgrade.
The 3rd version is the current one and works as-is.

Naturally, my disk controller (the very 1st series) doesn't work
with the CoCo3 without the Multi-Pak, but that's been true since before
the CoCo2 came out.

Cheers! -- Jim O.
