EWTILENI@PUCC.PRINCETON.EDU (Eric Tilenius) (03/05/87)
I've been asked a few questions lately, and I thought the following info would would be of interest to many of you. Q> What is "Spectrogram"? * It's a new magazine (about a year old) for the CoCo. Subscriptions for 12 issues (about 85 pages/issue) are $18 US and $26 Canadian (in U.S. funds); $34 elsewhere. It's not nearly as good as The Rainbow, which I consider a MUST SUBSCRIBE TO magazine, but if you're looking for another source of Color Computer 1, 2, and 3 info, it's not bad. For subscriptions or more info, write to: Spectrogram P.O. Box 138 Rockford, IL 61105 Q> Are there any good User's Groups you'd recommend? * Yes, as a matter of fact. THE ISLAND COCO CLUB out on Long Island, NY publishes a 20+ page bi-monthly newsletter, has a fine public domain software library, and tons of other benefits. If you're out on LI or in NYC, I'd strongly suggest joining; elsewhere, you can be an "out of area member" for a special rate. And, if you're from another club, TICC would like to trade newsletters. For more info, and a free copy of the newsletter, write to 'em and say I sent you. (No, I don't get any commission for this, but I'm a member and really enjoy the club.) The Island CoCo Club P.O. Box 901 Bellmore, NY 11710 Newsletter submissions also welcome. Q> What monitor would you recommend for the CoCo 3? * Definitely get an RGB monitor. Those are the best, and you'll really need one for the 80 column screen and the 640x225 resolution. (No, that's not a mistake, the 3's vertical resolution can be set to 255.) I have a CM-8 (from Tandy), and it's pretty good, but not great. My friend recommends the MAGNAVOX RGB 8515, which seems to show the colors and resolution better, as well as having a composite mode, so you can see what the colors look like for the rest of the world. (Also has monochrome emulation.) YOU WILL NEED A SPECIAL CABLE! Check ads in the Rainbow, or write to MIKE88 or MARTYGOODMAN on Delphi for info on where they're available. That's all for now, folks. Of course, you realize that everything here is totally disclaimed by anyone and everyone, so use your own discretion :-) - ERIC - "Their coats were brushed, UUCP : ALLEGRA!PSUVAX1!PUCC.BITNET!EWTILENI their faces washed, their ARPA : EWTILENI@PUCC.PRINCETON.EDU shoes were clean and neat...
