However, if you use 80 tracks double sided, then things go wrong. > (Jim Omura) > I've had OS-9 Level-II for two weeks now and I have been using a Teac 96-tpi, 80-track, Double-sided drive as /d1 and a standard Radio- Shack 35-track, Single-sided drive as /d0 with absolutely no problem whatsoever. The Format utility initializes 2880 good sectors! I just got through patching the device descriptors this weekend to support a 6 msec. head stepping rate on both drives which really improved disk access time! I have been using the D0_35S and D1_80D device descriptors. As for trying to boot from a double-sided 80-track drive I haven't tried that yet, it would require at least making a copy of the D1_80D device descriptor and patching it to become /d0 rather than /d1 since Radio Shack does not include a D0_80D device descriptor. I might try this sometime however. I am using a Radio Shack FD-501 controller and Level-II v02.00.01. Now for my questions... Does anybody have any experience with using a Hard Disk drive on the coco III under Level-II? I noticed that Radio Shack neglected(?) to include The CCHDISK driver and any of the HD device descriptors with Level-II. Could the Level-I CCHDISK driver & descriptors be used under Level-II? with patching? I also have a Radio Shack "Hard Disk Interface" P/N #26-3145 (which is FAR over-priced for what it has in it!). This is only a bus interface to an external Hard Disk controller. Does anyone have information on where to get a compatible Hard Disk controller since I have not seen anything from Radio Shack? Hopefully it would be capable of controlling 1-2 ST-402 type interface Hard Disk drive? Thanks, Roger Lanphere
