To keep track of all the windows you can have open
with 512K, I'd like someone to write a couple of
utility commands:
WINDIR (WINdow DIRectory)
Lists the currently defined windows,
whether they are active (shell) or just passive,
whether or not they are CLEAR-key accessible at moment,
text/graphic, 40/80 cols, and how much memory they're
using. Options could select how much of that is shown.
WHIND (WHich WINDow is this?)
Typing this merely echoes the device-name of your
window or screen, such as /w4 or /term.
Nice to know which window is what after a while.
Until we get such utilities, I guess the serious user
should open windows only as needed and trash them
when done with each. I guess the 128K owners already
work this way.
PS: I believe Kevin Darling's "Inside OS9" book has
source for a version of PROCs that gives the window
for each process. WINDIR would list by window,
not process.
