I discovered something interesting when playing with my CoCo III. If
you press cntrl, alt, and reset at the same time, you get a digitized picture
of three men on the screen: M. Hawkins, T. Harris, and T. Earles. Also,
it seems like a big 'M' is on the wall behind the three men. (Microware,
possibly?)
Anybody have any ideas as to their identity, origin, etc?

Good guess... these are the three programmers who modified the Microsoft BASIC inside the CoCo to support the new features of the CoCo 3. They are from Microware. Rumor has it that they snuck this picture into the ROM without Tandy's knowledge... someone only found out AFTER the computer was in production. They also put in a few other "vanity stunts" in addition to other ways to get the pix. For instance, try CLS 100. Then try it again. By the way, the BEST way to restart (cold start) your computer is to use their picture! Hit CTRL-ALT-RESET, then hit RESET again.
