[comp.sys.tandy] Speed jumpers on 68000 board;Tandy 6000

marc@mfbbs.UUCP (Marc Randolph) (07/18/87)

[mail was returned... I think there is probably enough interest to post this]
   On the "newer" 68000 boards (the newer ones are 5 inches wide [measured from
next to the bus connectors to outside edge] and the old ones are 6 inches),
there are four pins (see below) next to the crystal. The old boards don't have
these pins.

              /--------------------------------\
              |                                |
              |    +-----+                     |
              |    |68000|                     |
              |    +-----+              crystal|
              |                              * <--- E7, E4, E5, E6 pins
              +-------------++++++++++++++++---+
                            ||||||BUS|||||||

      connect pins  MHz
       -----------------
       E7 <-> E4    6MHz
       E7 <-> E5    12MHz
       E7 <-> E6    8MHz

   My support chips on the board didn't work reliably at 8MHz. It worked for
about 5 minutes before Xenix crashed with a weird error (I was told it was some
of the support chips, not the 68000 that couldn't handle the speed).
   If anyones know something about the 12MHz working (rumors or otherwise),
PLEASE tell me. I would like to locate and possibly buy one.
