Hi, I'm working on a Tandy 3000HD computer with a builtin 40 Meg hard disk running SCO Xenix (presently 2.1, probably 2.2.1 soon). The people who own the system need some additional disk space (databases and accounting packages tend to take up a lot of space). I would like to find something for them around 20-40 Meg, hopefully between $400-$600. I would want to try to get a decent performing drive, meaning low access time and high transfer rate (16 bit controller card if not using present controller). The 3000 can handle a 2nd internal half height hard disk (attaching to the present disk contolller), or as a plug in card (hopefully, 16 bit interface). Now, here at my 3 problems: 1. What hard disks are compatible with the 3000 (one connecting off the first hard drive would probably be the cheapest and give the best performance)? The reason I asking this is because I tried to install a 3rd part 3 1/2" floppy in another 3000 HD and never did get it to work, so I'm a little leary about expecting any drive to drop in with no problems. 2. What drives/controllers are supported under SCO Xenix? Their installation manual lists some drives and controllers that work. What I would like to find out is what drives and controllers people actually have up and running. 3. Are they any mailorder places to look for/ignore? I've usually ordered products through the mail before, and have never had any problems. I don't want to get a drive with a lot of flawed sectors (where its fuzzy between working and not working) and have problems getting it replaced. Thanks for any help you can provide.
