****** Have you ever heard of Unix running on a one's-complement machine? We haven't, that's why we are trying it!! Here at the University of Georgia, we thought it would be an interesting project to port Version 7 Unix to a one's complement machine. Since the beginning of the project, we have run into many interesting problems caused by, mostly, the one's complement arithmetic. So far we have solved these, but we feel that there are going to be many more as we continue this endevor. What I would like is for anyone who has had experience on a one's complement machine, especially running Unix, who can give us any feed back on some of the real out-of-the ordinary problems we might encounter and a way of avoiding them. As a guide, we are doing this on a Control Data Corp. Cyber 18/20; a 16-bit, word addressable, one's complement computer with 256Kb of memory. Any feedback is appreciated.
