For everyone's information, I purchased a 20 MB Tandy hard card for my 1000 SX and was less than impressed by the performance. While I liked the PC, the disk seemed very slow (Norton SI=1.4 for PC, 0.5 for disk, and 1.1 overall). I got the idea to play around with interleaf factor and was very suprised with the following results.... interleaf spintest Norton Disk index --------- revs/track bytes/min ------------------ ----------------------- 2 18 29002 0.5 3 17 30719 0.5 4 4 130560 1.4 5 5 104448 1.4 The local Radio Shack computer center recommended an interleaf of 2 and they obviously were way off - a couple of hours playing around resulted in an amazing improvement at zero cost. I figured you folks out there in Tandy land would be interested in knowing that the hard card is not junk if you can set it up right. (yes, I KNOW I could've gotten a third party disk for less than the $599 I paid - please don't remind me - I had my reasons at the time). Anyway, I'm sitting here on my SX quite happy with the performance and I figured others might be interested in making their SX's faster too. -- Vince Skahan Boeing Computer Services - Phila.
