I'd like to get rid one of my two 5.25" 360K floppies and replace them with a 1.44 MB 3.5" on my Tandy 1000SX. I've seen lots of articles in the various Tandy-specific magazines that tell how to get a 720K 3.5" and install them. How about a 1.44MB ??? I've been bitten with the dreaded "buy Tandy because it's cheap but get a personal loan when you want to upgrade" already when I bought a Tandy 20MB hard-card (which incidentally I'm VERY happy with). I'd like to get a 3rd-party 1.44 MB drive and install it...can I???... has anyone out there done it ??? ... do I need special connectors ??? who sells them? Any responses will be appreciated. I'll post a summary to any e-mailed responses. -- Vince Skahan Boeing Computer Services - Phila. Sorry, but niether 1.44meg 3.5" disk nor 1.2meg 5.25" disks can be installed on a PC class machine such as the SX. You need a disk controller that can talk to the drive at double the normal data rate to use these drives. (I think there's also some special 'handshaking' involved too) I've seen ads for replacement controllers that will allow this on other PC clones, but isn't the floppy controller on the 1000 part of the motherboard? If so, you are likely out of luck. -- Leonard Erickson ...!tektronix!reed!percival!bucket!leonard CIS: [70465,203] "I used to be a hacker. Now I'm a 'microcomputer specialist'. You know...
