[comp.sys.tandy] Tandy Hard Drives

mwolfe@ogccse.ogc.edu (Michael Wolfe) (01/08/89)

I have a Tandy 1000SX with the (expensive) Tandy 20 Meg hard drive.
I also have the clock/calendar chip, which does not take up a slot,
but does raise the PROM chip under which it sits so that many cards
(including the hard drive card) won't fit there. So, I had to put the
hard drive card in slot 3, 4, or 5, where it does eat up the space for
two additional slots. When I had some other service done recently,
the clever Tandy serviceman (this guy has been good to be, and vice versa)
told me that the clock calendar chip could also be placed under one of the
PROMs on the hard card itself. That would be (probably) the only advantage
of getting the Tandy drive, unless it can also be done with the 3rd
party hard drives. Anyway, my problems are solved, and I got my slots
back.

Maybe the TX, TL or SL have clock/calendar chips on the motherboard,
where they belong (if not, why not?).
