I have recently acquired a Tandy 3000HL, the original model. I have two concerns: 1. My BIOS version is 01.00.00. Is there a later version out? If so, how would I order it, what does it cost, and is it easy to install? 2. I'd like to get the Advanced keyboard (the one with 12 function keys) since the one supplied with it is terrible. Can the 3000HL (remember, ORIGINAL model) use it? Any recommendations as to the place to buy it? If there is a later BIOS out there, does it solve major compatibility problems, or is it a relatively minor update? It doesn't matter since I want the latest BIOS anyway, but I'd like to know why an update emerged (assuming one actually exists, of course). Thanks... --- George

There is indeed a newer BIOS for the 3000HL. I had mine upgraded when I had a 3 1/2" drive put in. I didn't get my enhanced keyboard until after that, so I don't know if the keyboard will work with the original. I'm sorry to say that I have no idea of the cost of the upgrade, but it should be available from any Radio Shack Computer Center. They might not have the ROM in stock (most likely they won't) but they should be able to order it for you. Depending on your confidence in not plugging chips in backwards, you may or may not wish to have it installed for you. In the event that your local RS doesn't know what the heck you are talking about, please try to remain calm and ask them to contact Customer Service in Ft. Worth for you. As you have no doubt noticed, RS personnel don't always have great depth of knowledge about anything not currently in stock, when confronted by this your best bet is to be persistent and polite and to get in touch with Ft. Worth. For some strange reason, people who know computers inside and out tend to become Engineers insted of Salespersons. My 3000HL is still plugging away with it's BIOS uprade and enhanced keyboard ( TANDY enhanced keyboard of course! ). It now boasts a VGA card (TANDY, who else?) and a monochrome VGA monitor (from some company named TANDY). I'd love for you to by from TANDY as it pays my salary, but the 3000HL shouldn't have problems with any XT peripherals or with most AT peripherals.
