This is my first posting to this newsgroup, as I do not own a Tandy. However, I do know someone who does; my mom. She has what appears to be an original Tandy 1000. Now she is trying to run WordPerfect 5.0 on a 2 floppy drive system and it is driving her batty. So, she sees two options and is getting the run-around from the local Radio Shack people. One is to get a 3.5" 700K (may not be exact size, since I am not familiar with the Tandy line) floppy drive, and the other is to get a 10 Mb or 20 Mb hard drive. Now, having visited one of the local RS's, I noticed that the only 20 Mb HD they had was >$600!! In today's IBM compatible market, this is ludicrous! So, I am asking all of you Tandy afficionados out there to help me help my mother. I need information on HD expansions on the Tandy 1000. Can I just go get a cheap 20 Mb IBM compatible HD and install it? What kind of interface card do I need? Speed is not an issue here, since my mother probably won't notice the difference between 65 ms and 28 ms. So, the primary concern is $$. I am told that, for IBM and compatible systems, I should not pay more than $300 for a 20 Mb, installed. This is also supposed to take into account any difficulties present in working with Tandy and not IBM stuff. He says that a 20 Mb drive installed for an IBM compatible would run between $200 and $250. So, any information you can EMAIL me on HD's for the Tandy would be appreciated.
