[comp.sys.tandy] What to do with a 2000?

mdiehl@ariel.unm.edu (J. Michael Diehl) (03/23/90)

I have a tandy 2000 with 256K, a 10Meg internal hard disk and a 15 Meg external
hard disk, b&w monitor, and 1 floppy disk drive. My problem is that I need to
sell it and the floppy disk has gone bad. Radio Shack wants about $220 to
replace the drive. If I could find a replacement drive, I'm sure I could
replace it myself....Do any of you out there in net-land know where I could
score a replacement drive?

Also, when I do sell it, what is such a system worth?

thanx in advance.

The drive is a 80 track LOW-capacity 5 1/4" drive. It may be worth your
while to replace it with a 80 track low-capacity 3 1/2" drive. They
look identical to software, and all that would be necessary is a 5->3
cable converter or similar adapter.

You can also use a 5 1/4" 80TK DSHD (hi-cap 1.2Meg) drive *IF* it has a strap
on it to change the motor speed from 360 RPM to 300 RPM. These are
drives are pretty easy to obtain and cost $90-$100.

If you really want a 5 1/4" 80TK DSDD drive, it will probably cost
around $80, if you can find one as it is not a common drive anymore.

Try Aerocomp or "Clone Computer" at 800-527-0347. They sell the one you
want, which is (I think) a 720K 5.25" drive for about $109.
