My parents run a small-medium sized hardware store and are attempting to automate some of their accounting. My brother and I helped them get going by purchasing the basic Tandy 1000 when it first came out. They bought "The Accounting Partner" by Star Software (V.1) which, though seemingly intended for a slightly larger company, has been of some help. This software has General Ledger, Payroll, Accounts Rec., and Accounts Payable modules -- each must be accessed seperately. The computer has a paltry 256 K RAM. About a year ago, they also bought a 20 M hard drive (Tandy) which has been a piece of junk. Though the computer is not used extensively, the hard drive has developed bad sectors twice now. The quick way we've handled this was simply to reformat the disk, but this is not easy, fun, or encouraging. All in all, between the dinosaur software system and the unreliable hardware, the parents are becoming quite discouraged. Anyway, I am interested in acquiring a slightly more simple, tooled down accounting software suitable for a retailing store. If anyone has information or good/bad experiences to relate about any such software, I would be really interested in hearing them. Actually, there may even be a more recent version of the Accounting Partner which someone may have experience with. Replies may be sent to the network or to me at privette@cgdra.cgd.ucar.edu. Thanks for your help. Jeff
