I just bought Music Studio 3.0 from Radio Shack for my vanila XT clone (not a Tandy computer). I'm having a couple problems getting it to work: 1) It will not recognize my Joystick. When I use F10 - Setup and select the mouse options, the Joystick option is dim and not selectable! It will not let me select the Joystick option. I suspect that Tandy computers use a different method for talking to a Joystick than normal XT clones. Hence the software doesn't see that I do indeed have a Joystick port and a Joystick. I don't have a mouse. 2) When I press "F1 - Help", I get a window that pops up and says that it cannot find "DMHELP.ACC". This file was no where on ANY of the distribution disks that I received! 3) For printing, there doesn't seem to be a selection for EPSON printers. 4) When I select "IBM GRAPHIC" (in printer setup) it says that it cannot load the driver. I know that the "DM??IBM.RRS" file exists and is indeed in the proper directory. Any help would be very appreciated. If you have a non-Tandy version of Music Studio 3.0, please contact me! The joystick ports on a Tandy are not the same as joystick ports that you can get on a board. >2) When I press "F1 - Help", I get a window that pops up and says that it > cannot find "DMHELP.ACC". If the program is asking for anything that begins with DM, then it is a Deskmate program/driver. I would venture that is the reason it can't find it. >3) For printing, there doesn't seem to be a selection for EPSON printers. That's not a bug, that's a feature! ;-) Actually, since I think Music Studio is a Deskmate-like program, it would follow the scheme of Deskmate. That is, it only supplies drivers for IBM Graphic printers (like the Tandy DMP 13* printers), the HP Laserjet, and various Tandy printers (like their daisywheel). I don't think Tandy makes an Epson printer clone so I would sorta doubt they'd include an Epson driver. Along the same lines, I'm a little mad that there isn't a PostScript driver in Deskmate. >4) When I select "IBM GRAPHIC" (in printer setup) it says that it cannot load > the driver. The only thing I can think of is that it's a bad file or that the program is not looking where it thinks it's looking. The joystick ports on a Tandy are >not the same as joystick ports that you can get on a board. According to my Tandy 1000SX Technical reference manual, the joystick port uses 200-207h. This is the same range given in the manual for the IO card in my Gateway 2000. If Tandy used different ports, other PC compatible software wouldn't work. I never had joystick problems with the 1000. The problem with Music studio may be something else. Andrew Rossmann andyross@ddsw1.MCS.COM
