I'm posting this for a friend who has no net access: ------------------------------------------------------- I moved a hard disk and its controller from an old tandy 1000 to a tandy 1000SL. All seemed well at first; I could boot from it, and look at or run anything that was already there, but any attempt to write to the disk resulted in a 1 min pause, then the message "not ready error writing drive". The SL has a rom drive (normally drive c) and the cpu is an 8086. The drive is a miniscribe 3650 on a western digital mfm xt controller. thanks - Nigel

>I moved a hard disk and its controller from an old tandy 1000 to a >tandy 1000SL. I was unable to reach you via EMAIL so I am posting the solution to the net. There are actually two ways to fix the problem. The original 1000 used interrupt 5 for the video (same as the PCjr it was made to compete with), but regular PC's use int 2. The SL and all other current 1000's now use int 5 for the HD. The hard drive is probably set to use int 2, so it needs to be switched to 5. If the drive is a hard card you need to change the jumper on the long vertical row on the right edge of the controller from 8 to 7 (or is it 7 to 8?, I'm at school so I don't have docs handy, so just reverse the position of said jumper.) Then change the jumper on the short horizontal row on the lower right from 2-3 to 1-2 (same reversal rule applies.) This should fix the problem. If the drive is a seperate drive/controller set do this: The controlelr has a jumper marked with the interrupt settings, change it, dealt with. If you need more help you can call me or post another followup, I'll be happy to give a hand.
