i recently purchased a tandy model 100. it has only 8k of ram and i would like to upgrade it to 32k. our local tandy computer centre tells me that it means simply installing some 8k ram chips (8 bits wide each) the number of which is HM 6117 LFP-4. they sell these chips for $60.00 each. i find this most unacceptable as i paid only $175 for the computer. can anyone suggest a souce for these chips, and is simply putting in the chips all there is to upgrading a model 100's memory? victor spicer winnipeg manitoba canada

If it is still being published, buy a copy of Portable 100. They'll have ads for the RAM upgrade. The trouble is, there is *no* chip that matches the pinout on the sockets in the 100. The Tandy part was 4 chips surface mounted on a miniature PC board. Non-Tandy upgrades may cost as much as $25 per 8k. -- Leonard Erickson ...!tektronix!reed!percival!bucket!leonard CIS: [70465,203] "Oregon Guild Gold Card -- don't leave home without it!"
