When I had my TX, the technical reference manual directly stated that
protected mode is NOT supported.  If you look, you'll see that the
reset on the 286 is connected directly to the reset switch on the front
of the computer.  Most applications switch back and forth between protected &
normal mode.  It's impossible for them to do this with this setup.
As for shadow RAM, how are you going to add the extra RAM?  There are no
16 bit slots on the T? series.
Give up and consider your microprocessor a glorified 8086.  You can still use
the few extra instructions that the 286 has in 8086 mode, but that's
the only way it may be considered a 286.
