References: I am looking for some information on lasers for use in party settings. I do some D.J. work on weekends, and I have designed much of the lighting effects that I use myself. Now I want to investigate using lasers. Can anyone out there tell me if low powered lasers are commercially available, and if so, where I might obtain one or more? What about the hardware required to control the laser/s? Also, if you have any suggestions for me to explore regarding latest sophisticated (or even not-so-sophisticated) lighting systems which might be appropriate for my purposes, I would be most grateful for suggestions and information. Thanks, Murray @ Stony Brook. (Phone: (516)-928-5469)

Whatever you do, make sure people's eyes are not in the direct laser light, otherwise you run a real risk of causing permanent retinal damage. This can happen with low-power HeNe lasers as easily as with the CO2 type that burn through walls. Be careful working with the thing yourself. You won't feel a thing when your eyes get damaged, either. Look into protective goggles. "That's the biz, sweetheart..." Dave Fiedler {harpo, astrovax, philabs}!infopro!dave
