My girlfriend has a Tandy 1400HD. She has an external 2400 bps modem and a serial mouse (an external modem is much cheaper than Tandy's internal card). Right now, she has to swap devices whenever she wants to use the one not attached. I recommended a serial switch box (A/B box). Question: Can a MANUAL one be safely used with the 1400HD, or will she have to purchase an AUTOMATIC one (which she won't probably do because of the cost)? --- George -- "People think I'm some moron who drives a Trans Am" - Burt Reynolds "Make mine a GTA!" - Me

All it takes is a flip of a switch with a manual serial a/b box. To me a more important point: She can ave RAM and annoying error messages upon bootup if she puts the mouse.sys file, etc., in a batch file, to be executed only when she wants to "mouse around." Free up 20-30k. BTW: I've been thinking about loading my command.com into a ram disk in that extra 128k of memory -- again free up some RAM, cut down on hard drive i/o, etc. I saw some statements to be put into an autoexec, or maybe config.sys, once upon a time, that would move command.com into a ram disk. Anybody out there know what statements to put where? Bob M., PSU Harrisburg

Howdy. I have similar problems with Tandy 1400 too. Modem/Mouse and null modem connection. I am thinking of the manual switching box too. I doubt it will cause any problems, since I have been plugging and unplugging the RS-232 connector while the machine is on. Nothing happens (so far :) -turgut
