[comp.sys.tandy] Driver for joystick mouse

andrem@pyrman2.pyramid.com (Andre Molyneux) (03/13/91)

Does anyone know of/have a driver that allows a Tandy joystick-port mouse
to be used with programs other than Deskmate? I have a Tandy 1000TX with
a joystick-port mouse, and I don't really feel like investing in a
Microsoft type serial mouse if I can avoid it.

Next question: I tried installing Windows 3.0 on this machine after borrowing
a friend's serial mouse. During the first part of the install, the
installation program tells you what it thinks your configuration is. For
some reason it thought my machine had a Hercules Monochrome adapter (the TX
has built in CGA [+ a 16 color Tandy mode]). I changed the default to CGA
before continuing with the install, but when Windows comes up it is in
black and white. Any idea on how to cure this? (By the way, if you really
want to know, Windows looks terrible with CGA resolution).

Please e-mail replies.

P.S. A note of thanks to all those who replied to my posting about adding a
hard-drive to this beast. I ended up buying a Seagate ST238R drive (32 MB
when formatted) and a Western Digital 1004-27X controller. This controller
has a jumper you can change to accept Tandy's screwy IRQ situation, or you
can just turn the IRQ5 switch on the motherboard "off". The drive works
great so far.
