[comp.sys.tandy] Hard Drive Tandy 1000

mlw@taffy.bellcore.com (Mary Lu Wason) (03/27/91)

Can anyone give me info on the best
place to get a hard drive for my Tandy 1000?
It is the first model they made (1985) and
it is called a 1000 A. I have upgraded it
with a zuckerboard memory expansion board
to 640K. I also have a zuckerboard modem.
Can I get any hard drive for an XT, such
as SEAGATE ? If so, what type of controller
and cables do I need, and where can I get
them?
	Any help or experience is
appreciated.
	Thanks.

You can use any RLL or MFM hard drive. It's the controler you need to be
concerned about here. Make sure the controler can be switched between IRQ2
and IRQ5 and you're all set. The BIG thing to watch is the very small power
supply in your Tandy. Like mine, it won't handle more than one drive with
any safety and low voltage is THE big hard drive killer so be carefull.
Just don't buy a drive from Radio Shack unless you wanna pay a lot more for
the same drive.
