[comp.sys.tandy] Harddisk swap

Is it possible to install a harddisk from an IBM PS/2 into a Tandy RL1000?
I have one of the first PS/2 Model 30's (I get my xxx86's mixed up, but it
doesn't have which ever is the good one) and my parents have a Tandy
RL1000 (brand new) with one 3 1/2 drive and a ROM "C:" drive. I really
need a larger harddisk and they just want any harddisk. Is the swap
possible?
Thanks.

no. Even if the HD from the model 30 was an IDE drive, it still would
not be advisable to attempt this combination. The reason for this is the
1000RL's tiny power supply. Putting a standard HD in the 1000RL would
probably overload your power supply and cause damage to your system.

Dont mention it.

NO! The 1000RL uses a special low current low voltage hard drive.
Tandy did not want a fan in the RL thus they needed to go
heavy on low current devices. (IC ASIC's hard drives, etc)

The ONLY hard drive to use in the RL is the tandy 20 meg
made specifically for the RL. It's RS part no is 25-1047.

Using any other drive, even though it >may< fit will hose
the power supply.
