Ahhhh... Well, once again I need help. This time I'm trying to get information about some picture image file formats (you know: how the bits are stored in the file and what they header information means). The image formats that I need the info' on are TIFF (Tag Image File Format -- Microsoft/Aldus) GEM (Digital Research) MS Paint or PC PaintBrush What I'm trying to do is read an image produced by an HP ScanJet (in any of the above formats) into my own program. The program is going to attempt to do some pattern recognition (letters and numbers at the moment). If there is enough interest I'll summarize and post the info'. vic -- Victor Gavin Zengrange Limited vic@zen.co.uk Greenfield Road ..!mcvax!ukc!zen.co.uk!vic Leeds England +44 532 489048 LS9 8DB

The TIFF format was defined and promoted by Aldus (as in PageMaker)
and Microsoft (as in Windows). Write to

I'm trying to do the same thing; right now I'm working with TIFF files. I have a copy of a document, "A Guide to the Tagged-Image File Format", which has HP part number 5958-4196. It is copyrighted by HP, but doesn't have "HP Confidential" plastered all over it. I would suggest you call your local sales office and see if they can get you a copy.
