[comp.sys.hp] Looking for Communications Package, HP1000-A900 to VMS

rbl@nitrex.UUCP ( Dr. Robin Lake ) (10/14/87)

A colleague is looking for a data communications package:
	- Runs on Ethernet
	- Links an HP1000 Model A900 to a VAX running VMS
	- Does at least file transfer
	- Would like to have virtual terminal capability.

Please reply to me:

re: "A colleague is looking for a data communications package:"

Ask your local sales rep about HP "AdvanceNet" Network Services (NS) on
the VAX.

Don't think so.

HP has a software package called NS for the DEC VAX computer,
or some such wording, which runs on VMS and allows HP computers
which have NS (1000, 9000 and 3000) to transfer files to and
from the VAX. It works with LANs, though I don't know enough
to say which combination of (IEEE802.3/Ethernet) and (DEUNA/
other Ethernet controller) are required. Check with your local
HP folk for more details.

Reply from John Blommers, Hewlett Packard (Bellevue Sales
Office),

The product you seek to do FILE COPY between HP1000 and a
VAX or MicroVAX=II is "NS for the DEC VAX", hp part number
50950A. The A-series will need NS/1000 hp part number
91790A along with the LAN interface card 12076A. The product
gives you the DSCOPY command to move files from one node to
another node. Virtual Terminal will hopefully come out with
a future release of these products. Call your local hp sales
office for prices and ordering information.
