With reference to the request for Ethernet based file transfer from an A900 to a VMS/VAX. The posted NS route is one way to go. We have NS on our A900 to communicate with a 9000 Series 500. It is expensive and requires about 1 MB of memory to run, also NS VAX has to be running at the VAX end, if you don't have control of the VAX you may feel nervous about asking the VAX manager to run this little piece of software so your A900 can talk to him! Our cheaper/better solution is the following. Buy an ethernet terminal server (converts from E'net to Rs-232), we use Bridge boxes but other vendors make them. Hook this up to your A900 with dedicated incoming and outgoing ports on the mux. Buy CONNECT from ICT for $900 which gives you terminal emulation, file transfer, Kermit etc and away you go. Now you can go out to any machine on the NET and any machine can telnet to you. Sorry, no ftp, rlogin etc. Oh yeah, a Bridge Box costs around $3000. We have used this successfuly for about a year. A long term solution is to keep beating on HP for real TCP/IP Ethernet for the A900 but it seeems like that will never happen. Hope this helps. -- ARPA: green@eneevax.umd.edu UUCP: [seismo, allegra]!mimsy!eneevax!green
