I have a networking question that I hope someone out in HP land can help me with. I'm at the U of Chicago Dept. of Education, and we recently took delivery of an HP9000 825S. One thing I'd really like to do with it is get on the campus ethernet, but the cabling costs to our building are prohibitive for the time being. I have been told that a way we could do it is with something called slip, which comes with BSD4.3. My question: is there any way I can get slip on my 825? Hello, I am Dave Richards in the HP Information Networks Division in Cupertino, California. The answer to your request is not particularly wonderful, I'm afraid. We know about SLIP, I've even thought about implementing it as a weekend project. However, due to the large amout of quality control testing involved in shipping a product, it is unlikely that HP will ship SLIP in the near future. We (the implementors) are motivated by our marketing input. I would strongly suggest that you make your desires known to your SE. This information is transmitted back to us. Sorry that doesn't help. However, (you'll think this is goofy), if you have another machine, perhaps a dedicated IBM PC or something that can act as a SLIP/Ethernet converter you could still connect to the campus LAN. Wish I could help you. Dave
