zaphod@deepthot.UUCP (millions of atoms of Lance) (12/17/87)
I sys-op a HP 9000 (series 500) running HP-UX 5.2.
I started uucp and 'cico this week am having a problem
with the hayes smartmodem that i dial out through.
The problem is as follows:
uucico starts (say from mail)
autodial succeeds
login
transfer as master
switch roles correctly
when all is finished, BOTH system's LOGFILEs record
that the conversation is complete, however, the
hayes modem (at my, the originating, site) does
not hangup.
the uucico at my site gracefully ends
the uucico at the other site timesout and dies
on my modem the OH and CD lights remain on
the NEXT uucico attempt dies because the modem is "not available"
The result is that I have to run into the computer room and cycle the modem.
I have tried three modem configs on the HAYES:
UDUDUUUD (hp recommended)
UUDUDUUD (works on a 4.2 system i use)
DUDUDDUD (hayes factory default)
the device is set up as:
29 0x040300
(device 3 on select code 4)
