I did some asking around, and it turns out that the high addresses (0x08 and 0x09) are proscribed only because the kernel debugger (not any of the usercode debuggers) and the 98206 DIO-I test stimulus card use addresses in that range. As long as you pull the 98287A (98700A/H) interface during SE/CE debug/maintenance visits, you should be able to operate the 98700 at 0x8 or 0x9. Of course, this configuration is not officially supported. See page A-2 for discussion of what that means. Is it positively, absolutely true that a 98700/98710 (Gatorbox) display engine can NOT be set to have a frame buffer address 0x800000 or 0x900000 when used with a 9000/320 or 9000/350? This tidbit is taken from the HP Series 300 Configuration Reference manual, page A-445. The reason I would like to have the frame buffer moved is because a 98547 has a frame buffer running from 0x200000 to 0x3fffff, and the Gatorbox gives you two choices: 0x200000 0x300000 0x400000 98547 card |-----------------------| 98700 |------------| or |---------| Any suggestions as to how one might get a 98700 and 98547 working together? mjb. mjb@hoosier.utah.edu Fat Chance Garage and Brewery - Cars drive in... but they don't drive out!
