[comp.sys.hp] What to do, what to do

jap2@ur-tut (The Mad Mathematician) (03/20/88)

Greetings. This article is intended for all those who always wanted to tell
someone what they can do with their PC 6300. I have a basic machine, 640k
with a modem as the only peripheral. Since I am a very greedy fellow, I'd
like to know what I can do with it. My eventual goal is to be running UNIX
and operating a bulletin board. With your help, I will achieve these lofty
goals.
To put it simply, I am looking for add-ons and upgrades to make it stronger,
faster and better. while I am new to this computer, I am not new to computer
construction, so don't be bashful. Think of what your computer would be
like if you had an unlimited account.
Specifically, I'm looking for the following:
Hard drives and cards
Monitors and video cards
Add-on boards and above boards
Math coprocessor
Software
Alternate input devices (mice, light pens, etc.))
Anything else you can think of

I am doing my own research, but I thought I might as well use the resources
of the hundreds of people on the net. Please EMAIL all responses, as
I am on a remote linkup with my account this semester, and have to make
every minute count. I thank you very much for your time and efforts.
If I can I will try to summarize if there is call for it.

Again, I thank you. Have a nice day.

Actually, isn't the PC6300 not really PC compatible in terms of hardware?
We had a 6300+ which was impossible to get anything for: only one or two
of the slots were pc compatible, and the hard disc was a dog. When you
brought up unix... you were lucky to be able to get 4800 baud from the
single Serial port to another terminal...

So...

My vote for what to do with a 6300.... let's see...

A doorstop.... a large desk clock... perhaps an aquarium (use care
when cracking open the crt tube..) bookends? I know... how about
an anchor?
