I'm trying to get my Series 310 to use hardware flow control and am having no luck. Heres the setup Series 310 running HP-UX 5.5 (6.0 is still in the box) 98628 buffered serial interface card (highly recommended) other assorted cards (4 Meg, DMA, FHPIB) I am trying to use uucp through an Ungerman Bass 180 NIU to another machine at the other end of the factory. When information comes from the NIU at 9600 baud it overrunns the 98628. According to the HP 4951 protocol analyzer the HP tries to stop the data by sending XOFF but the NIU is ignoring it, thus data overrun. The board switches are set as the uucp manual recommends (4 on 5 off Full duplex modem connection. I have tried various /dev entries using all combinations of direct/modem US/CCITT data in/data out. The protocol analyzer still shows the 98628 to be using XON/XOFF which just doesn't work. Thus I am heading toward the getty, gettydefs and inittab files to see if I can find anything there that may set up the serial port, but the outlook doesn't look bright. (P.S. the HPUX is the single user version since the machine is mainly used as an instrument controller, thus I don't think it will have an entry in inittab as there are no incoming connections only outgoing) Anyone know the answer and care to point me in the right direction? -- John.Pedersen@Wichita.NCR.COM NCR Engineering & Manufacturing EMC Engineering Wichita KS 316-636-8837

UUCP turns off flow control for g-protocol, so somebody must be turning it back on. Are you sure it's not the UB generating the XOFF's? If your link is (fairly) reliable, why not try f-protocol? It *likes* to use XON/XOFF. Rob Gardner {ihnp4!hpfcla,hplabs!hpfcdc}!rdg Hewlett Packard or rdg%hpfcmr@hplabs.hp.com Fort Collins, Colorado 303-229-2048 80525-9599 "Ask me about Home Brewing"
