Welcome to the World Center of Handheld Computing!
Your conference committee (Sherman Lowell, Conference Chairman;
Jeremy Smith, Program Chairman; Ron Brooks; Eric Gakstatter; Brian
Walsh, HPX User CLub Liaison) cordially invites all users of handheld
computers and programmable calculators to attend a three day meeting
and exhibit fair in Corvallis, Oregon.
The Conference theme is "The Past, Present, and Future of the
Handheld Computing". It is our hope to have members of the original
design teams tell us the challenges that were met and overcome in the
development of various handheld calculators. There will also be
several sessions for contributed papers. Local companies will be
hosting various activities including tours, luncheons, and a western
style barbecue.
The Conference meets in the LaSells Stewart Center on the Oregon
State University campus beginning at 9 a.m., Thursday, August 4th. You
may register by mail (check or money order payable to "Handheld
Computing") or at the beginning of the conference. The cost per
participant is $85.00 (waived for speakers). It includes 3 luncheons,
the barbecue, refreshments during the sessions, and a copy of the
conference proceedings.
Exhibitor tables (4' x 8' with chairs and electrical service) are
available in protected exhibit rooms at a fee of $200.00. (Space and
cost may be shared, if desired.) Please contact Eric Gakstatter. Tel.

We invite you to submit papers for presentation at the Conference
on any aspect of handheld computing. The published version of papers
will not be restricted in length, but the oral version should be
limited to 20 minutes. Time will be allotted for discussion. We can
accept papers in a variety of ways: via E-mail at BitNet:

files on magnetic media (include data on how files were prepared), or

include 2.5cm margins sides and top, and a 5cm margin on the bottom).
Send magnetic media or legible, ready-to-copy papers as soon as
possible to Jeremy Smith at 301 NE Byron Place, Corvallis Oregon 97330
USA. Papers received by June 30th and accepted will be published in
the conference proceedings; later arrivals may not make it.
Lodging during the Conference is available in 3 classes of
accommodation: (a) Dormitory single or double rooms with bathroom
facilities shared on floor; (b) Dormitory single or double rooms with
facilities shared between two rooms; or (c) Motel rooms. Dormitory
space is close to the conference center. (No alcoholic beverages are
permitted on campus.) Conferees arriving in Corvallis on Wednesday,
August 3rd, are invited to meet at a no-host gathering in the Nendels
Inn Cocktail lounge 7-10 p.m.
During the Conference the Weyerhuser Room of the LaSells Stewart
Center will be used for disk and document exchange, and copying of
disks, tapes, and barcode. The equipment can be used by registrants
without charge. We will try to make user club publications available
also. Desk space will be provided for user clubs represented at the
Conference.
In order that we can anticipate more accurately the needs of
conferees, please return the enclosed form as soon as possible. And
since we cannot possibly make sure that all interested users of
handheld computers and programmable calculators have the most up-to-
date information about the conference your committee asks that you pass
it on.
Finally, we would like to remind you that Corvallis is in the
midst of some of the most scenic vacation areas in the United States
and it would be a shame if you leave Oregon after the Conference
without having had the opportunity to sample its treasures. We look
forward to seeing you here!
