We are planning to purchase approx 20 workstations shortly so have been looking to see what is available. As part of this we have had an HP9000 series 300 box on loan for evaluation (running HP-UX 6.01). We are basically a Berkeley shop so are concerned by the lack of some berkeley features. Such as: no wait3 system call no berkeley job control no SIGWINCH 14 character filenames no pstat, vmstat type commands no UNIX domain sockets (and [therefore ?] no syslog and lpd) no domain nameserver support According to the manual the first two of the above are available on the series 800 boxes and I have been told that HP-UX 6.2 has the Berkeley file system and the Berkeley line printer stuff so my question is: What other features does HP-UX 6.2 have that aren't in 6.01? (Is 6.2 the latest release?) Please E-mail replies as we don't actually get this newsgroup (yet). thanks mark -- Domainised: mark@comp.vuw.ac.nz Bang form: ...!uunet!vuwcomp!mark

syslog works. It uses AF_INET sockets. We're running BIND version 4.8 here, so that works too. (I didn't do the port, so don't ask me.) We're also running sendmail 5.59 with MX support and all the other goodies. (I did do the port, so ask me.)
