[comp.sys.hp] Trouble with DMA on HP9000/300 Inc Circuit Emulator

jbm@uncle.UUCP (John B. Milton) (10/07/88)

Application:
68000, 10MHz, 3x68681, 2 ROM, 2 RAM

Adding:
Am7990 LANCE (Ethernet) chip, 2 RAM

Environment:
64000(68k, 8051, state(40/20)) attached to HP9000/330, HP-UX 6.2

The Am7990 acts as a bus master during DMA activity. There is a PAL to take
care of conversion from HOLD and HOLD ACK to BG, BR and BGACK. All this is
now working after some heavy (2k) pull ups on BR, BGACK and AS. That is it
works just fine stand alone with the program burned in EPROM.

Now the fun. We still want to use $100k of HP to develop, and thus we need
the emulator to work with a non 68000 bus master. We have it down to some
kind of glitch with a flip flop in the emulator pod that turns the buffers
in the pod around. What I want to know is if somebody else has had trouble
with the HP 64000/68k stuff. I am very impressed with HP continuing quality
in this area, so I don't think there is a problem with HP hardware. However,
the particular configuration may not be something HP has had to deal with.

Thanks,

John
