The series 800 machines support Berkeley job control.
As of release 6.2, the series 300 machines do not support it.

All HP 9000 Series 800's have Berkeley job control (835 included).

Yes. Job control is currently supported on the HP 9000 Series 800 HP-UX
sytems and will be supported on an upcoming release of HP-UX for the
HP 9000 Series 300 systems.

Yes, we use the job control features all the time. They have been available
since Rev. 2.0. To activate job control do a stty susp \^z.

To summarize and confirm previous postings: the HP9000/800s have had job
control for sometime now, the HP9000/300s will soon have job control.

If you have an 800 (you have referenced an 835 in another article) and
you seem not to have job control, then check that the following stty
options are set:

stty susp ^Z dsusp ^Y tostop

the man page on stty should provide any more needed details

Rumour has it that the next major releases on the 300 and 800 series
(HP-UX 7.0 and HP-UX 3.0?, respectively) will be merged in the sense
that everything that's in one of them is in the other and vice versa.
Does that mean that also the 300 will get REAL job control? I noticed
that the latest 6.2 release for the 350 has long filenames (plus
a lot more we've been waiting for) - thanks!

If you can get 6.2 from HP. I got a letter a few months ago saying
"here it comes" but it never did. A call to HP said "we'll get it too
you real soon" but so far vaporware. HP seems to screw these software
shipments up a lot, since our original opsys tapes had random files
on them instead of the marked ones. At least I got a second set of
manuals for free in the make-up shipment (now if I could find space to
put them out :-) ). Good thing the software works so well when it finally
gets here, or I'd be screaming by now...
