The NFS diskless feature is new to NFS 4.0. There is a possibility that many of the new features in NFS 4.0 will be incorporated into HP's NFS (ie. directory exporting, the additional export options: read only, user name access lists...), but currently it is unlikely that NFS diskless will be among those added features. The main reason being that HP offers another diskless solution, that is very competitive with Suns (especially their Network Disk). This position is prone to change, due to market demand, and other factors. I encourage you to contact your HP representative and discuss your need for NFS 4.0 diskless, or a comparable solution. While I cannot discuss future releases, my group has ordered s300's. Your local sales office would be a good place to ask for detailed information. / hpindda:comp.sys.hp / eik@os.is (Einar Kjartansson) / 1:21 pm Nov 11, 1988 / Is it possible, or will it be possible to have a diskless HP 9000/3?? using HP 9000/8?? as a server. ---------- Currently, there is no diskless feature on the 800s, so they can not be a diskless server or a client. Unless, something changes the diskless functionality will be added to the series 800 in a future release. It will not be in HP-UX 3.0, but it is planned for a MAJOR release.
