[comp.sys.hp] X11R3 on 9000s320 w/98720A "Renaissance Box"...

Thanks to the many people who reassured me that X should run on the above-
mentioned system.

I got the core distribution from uunet and added the two patch sets to the
sources before doing the "make World". There were no visible error messages
in the make's logfile, but I am unable to get xinit or xdm to start up
the server window properly.

/usr/bin/X11 is in my PATH, I have upgraded the system to 6.2 B, everything
has been installed by the "make install", and the /usr/lib/X11/X0screens
file contains "/dev/crtren", and /etc/X0hosts contains the system's hostname.

However, when I try to start up the server by entering the command "xinit"
I get:

giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 239): unable to connect to X server

And when I try starting up xdm in the background (xdm &), That process seems
to try to start another process up every few seconds that doesn't live too
long (probably giving up like xinit was).

I read all the install docs, etc. and I thought I had all the bases covered.
Have I missed something? Is there a trick to getting this beast running?

					Thanks in advance,

					Joel

Try /etc/X0.hosts ( with the "." )
