I am interested in using an old HP7221 plotter. There are quite a few of these plotters still around, but no one seems to support them now that HPGL is the universal HP plotter command language. If anyone has a HPGL to 7221 filter program or any other help, like a C language driver for the HP7221, I would appreciate hearing about it. Thanks. No need for a filter - there is a 4-ROM kit still available that will convert your 7221A/B/C/S from "compact binary language" to HP-GL. This effectively makes it into a 7220A/C/T. The kit is HP part number 07221-00020, and has a U.S.list price of $75.00. Contact your local HP Sales Office. Ages ago, we sold a package of fortran routines that talked the packed binary language for the 7221. It was called plot-21 and was written in some dialect of fortran-iv. San Diego division sold it at that time, I believe. I doubt that it is still on a price list, but it might be worth a call. We shipped source code, with the product, so you might be able to rip out the code you need and discard the rest. Brian Perkin Hewlett-Packard Data and Languages Division hpda!bmp

Around 1980, when I supported it, I rewrote it entirely in standard FORTRAN, using a highly portable subset of of the 1966 ANSI standard. It is designed to be compiled and run on a wide variety of architectures. It's a 2-D graphics package consisting of 77 user-callable routines. It supports only the 7221 family of plotters. I don't know whether it's still sold/supported. If interested, check with the San Diego Division. Contact me if you have trouble finding a lead.
