I just received the 3.0 update for my 825. (Not that I want to offend anyone, but the installation documentation is horrible compared to what I used to get with the series 500.) One thing that is missing is a description of what is in 3.0! There is nothing there that says I really want this. Are there speed enhancements? New programs and features? POSIX compatibility? One question I have is speed. I've recently seen HP-UX (published 9/88) that says the 825 gives 825 0.65 MFLOP (double precision linpack) and 16,672 Drystones. Earlier documents (e.g. HP9000 series 800 performance brief, May, 1987) give it 0.491 MFLOP and 12,639 Drystones (optimized with registers). So why the difference. Is that improvment in 3.0? I saw no difference in my own benchmarks between 1.2 and 2.1 Finally, I've heard of some problems with 3.0. Can anyone say what they are? Do you recommend waiting for 3.1? Any idea "how soon" 3.1 will be? Roger N. Clark ..!speclab!rclark
