Cute. As I understand it, HP is one of the first vendors to release
X11. It was released at 3.0 for the Series 800.

Just so it's clear:

X11 has been available as a separate product for the Series 300 since
late Fall (I don't know the exact dates of customer shipments). The 3.0
release on the 800 mentioned above I believe is also a separate product.

With 6.5 on the 300 and 3.1 on the 800 (coming "soon" to a system near
you), X11 will be bundled in with HP-UX.

This posting is not an official source of information about HP products
or intentions. I just work here.

On Feb. 23 in response to the "X11 availibility" note, Chan Benson mentioned
that X11 would be bundled with HP-UX.

This note is to clarify the "bundling" of X11 with the next release of
HP9000 HP-UX. The next release is numbered HP-UX 6.5 for the Series
300 and HP-UX 3.1 for the Series 800.

X11 will be available for these machines as follows.

Series 300
""""""""""
X11 servers, clients and License-to-Use are shipped as part of
       the HP-UX AXE product.

X11 programming libraries will be shipped as part of the HP-UX PE product.

Both of these are installed (if you desire) as part of the HP-UX
          installation process.

Series 800
""""""""""
All SuperWorkstation bundles will continue to contain the entire X11
          product.

X11 products B1155A..B1160A will continue to be provided for users of
          Series 800 multi-user systems such as, HP825s, HP835s, HP840s,
          HP850s and HP855s.

Disclaimer: The best plans can prove unworkable, I could be wrong,
	    but I doubt it :-).

P.S. The most noticeable new capabilities provided are:
Accelerated Starbase, GKS and Phigs within X11 windows
HP Window Manager - the windows manager selected by OSF/Motif, provides
Presentation Manager behavior and 3D appearance
New utilities to print screen dumps (color too)
