We have HP Vectra PCs with the old PROM set which requires the DECNET Compatibility Resolution patch, DECNET.EXE .. contains these strings .. ------------ MZ@ Since you have the new Vectra Firmware installed, there is no need to load this HP Customer Utility HP CUSTOMER UTILITY: DECNET Compatibility Resolution (C) Copyright Hewlett-Packard Corporation 1985, 1986 Version A.01.02.01. ------------ Though we use the HP Keyboard, the DEC Mouse disabled and no MS-Windows, we still get success with remote DEC disk and connection protocols, DECNET CTERM and DEC LAT. While these touted features work, we get some erratic performance on the 101 key, HP 46030A, keyboard in the Numeric Keypad and the Movement-Aux keypad. These latter keys take on unpredicted values, especially in their arrow keys, digits. We suspect the HP DECNET patch was to sanitize keyboard interrupt management. It says it goes away with later Firmware, see above. What concerns us is whether any of the following applications are known to damage that Resolution: PCSA, Clipper, PAMCODE, Bernoulli Box or WP 5.0. PCSA 1.2 is the DEC networking package, with some TSRs. Clipper is the DBASE_3 compiler, PAMCODE is a cursor driven, screen menu delivered by HP, Bernoulli Box is a removeable disk cartridge driver and WP 5.0 is the Word Perfect text processor. All of these programs accompany our failure mode where 2, 3 or more are present, the problem is apt to recur after some number of operations. Only the VECTRA, DECNET.EXE and PCSA are common threads. Our main goal is to have a working pc and network access to our: vaxes, Suns someday, HP3000s someday and internet someday. Network access to us is remote file mounts, like NFS, DEC CTERM, DEC LAT, file copy, server access security. A WORKING PC and NETWORK ACCESS need to be during the same boot and without hardware or software deinstallation. We seem not to have that now and DEC has been of little help.
