I am working on a project that involves sending escape codes to an
HP2934A printer, and so am in the process of hacking (a copy of)
the hp2934a model file (I have "Revision: 38.1").
I think that there are typos in my hp2934a model file (used by the
lp spooler) and also in my manual, regarding escape codes for certain uses
of the "designate primary/secondary symbol set". The manual I am using is
the "2930 Series Printers Owner's Manual", 02932-90001, last update
received was dated 3/84.
On page 6-30 it says:
Primary Default Set Designated to Primary ESC ((0@
Primary Default Set Designated to Primary ESC ((1@
Current Primary Set Designated to Primary ESC ((2@
Secondary Default Set Designated to Secondary ESC ()0@
Primary Default Set Designated to Secondary ESC ()1@
Current Primary Set Designated to Secondary ESC ()2@
On page 6-40,41 it says:
same thing except the first "(" is dropped from each escape code
In the lp model file hp2934a it has:
ESC (@
ESC )@
My observations:
(1) I assume that the ESC (( is really ESC ( and that the ESC()
is really ESC). This seems consistent with the other similar formats.
I think that the manual author was perhaps trying to use the one table
to show two different things ...
(2) it seems to me that the descriptions on 6-30 (and on 6-40) must contain
an error, since the first 2 lines contain identical descriptions for
different escape codes. I would assume, from "parallelism" with the
ESC ) set of codes, that either the ESC (0@ or the ESC (1@ should read:
Secondary Default Set Designated to Primary
(3) IN EITHER CASE, one needs to correct the hp2934a model file -- I can't
find any reference to ESC (@ or ESC )@ as being valid.
Can anyone shed any light on the correct answer/s?
I assume my manual is current, as have been on software support and
manual update service.
(We are using an HP9000/540 under #5.21, although I think that the above
is not specific to cpu type, etc.)
Thanks for your help!
